CUG Camp

Thank God I was given a chance to join the CUG (College University Group) camp of PJEFC. I enjoyed every bit of it! The people, the environment, the message, the hot spring, the cold stream, the foods (including the durians!). Though I’m rather a new guy in the bunch,  I felt very much a part of the big family, I definitely looking forward to join them more :)

Apart from all the beautiful times spent with each others and also the message, one of the highlights of the camp was a Lectio Divina. God ministered to me personally using Isaiah 43:14-21. “I am doing a new thing… do not dwell on things in the past… I am making pathway through the wilderness, I am creating river in the dry wasteland…I have made Israel for myself, and they will someday honor me before the whole world” These are God’s personal message to me. I found release from shame I experience in the past, and was given hope and strength the explore the unknown future with God. Indeed, He is a Lord who does new things all the time, I should move along with Him instead of dwelling on the hurts in the past!

Here are some pictures I took… Enjoy :)

Welcomed by durians!

Dr. Kar Yong, our speaker. Learned a lot from him especially the "young at heart" character. "Buddy-buddy" kind of pastor with sound teaching

I want to thank Pastor Aaron, the youth Pastor for allowing me to join the camp. It was an eye-opening experience to me personally! I’m looking forward to see how I can journey alongside with these potential leaders and help them success!

Kg. Baru Mission Trip

It’s my first mission trip with the MMU student as well as my ministry leader (LINC Campus Team), John and Suat Ngoh. I must say that I was very stressful at first, but after getting to know them better and serving together, I became more at ease, and eventually, enjoyed the whole trip!

There are a lot of great things to share about this mission trip. Part of it is that it is a short and compact mission trip (6days) , where we need to do everything really short and sweet. I learned efficiency in this trip. Thanks to the efficient partnering church (Kg. Baru Methodist and Changkat Kruing Methodist), as well as the (very) efficient MT leaders (Leo and Ivy) and members! We’ve done quite a lot of works in those 5 days!

Local youths helped in prayer walk and visitation

Second highlight about this trip is that God allowed me to learned what pre-evangelism is all about. I learnt it during the staff congress, and this mission trip is another perfect time for me to practice. I realise that it is actually very easy if we rely on the Holy Spirit. There are times where I felt really struggle to continue the conversation, but as I pray in my heart, God actually moved and make the other party keep the ball rolling, and often leads to discussion on spiritual topics. He loves them more than I do, He proved it by doing so :)

Even children needs the Gospel!

Third thing is that God allowed me to experience some of the wonderful works He had done, sometimes, beyond our expectation! I had this privilege to help a semi-paralyzed man to a physiotherapy  center owned by Wesley Methodist in Sitiawan. There I was able to see some of the nicest and warmest moments throughout the whole trip… I see the realization of LOVE and COMPASSION. I also saw the importance of bringing the Gospel that is relevant to the needs of the people there.

Caring smile

We also see how God work through the children program. We (the MT members) were expecting 50-60 kids, but when we see that there are only about 25 kids turned up on the first day, we were actually a little bit disappointed. We moved on with high spirit anyway. Little did we know that the pastor there was actually expecting lesser than 10 (due to some past experience and her knowledge about the reaction of people there toward church programs). Having 25 kids turn up, and even with some non-believing parents attending children program in a church is already a miracle to her!

What a joy to hear something like that :) When we do everything by faith, we can witness how God’s spirit moves!

Happy Kids

Dance and song

Oh how can I forget to mention the warm familiness from the partnering church? Every meals are prepared by them, and everytime I eat those authentic Foo Chow foods, have have this warm feeling not only in my stomach, but also in my heart. It is always great to be part of God’s family!

Charge Up! Conference (CUC)

This is a God appointed training for me.

I knew this conference from 2 MMU students a day before the last day for early-bird registration. I remember I called up Choon Ean (the organizer) at 1130pm that night and ask her about the registration. I remember I drove my car (just got it then) here and there to look for ATM Machine at 4 different places at 12am (because every ATM machine that I went for flashed “Out of Order”). Then suddenly I realized that ATMs stop transaction pass 12, and after I went back worrying myself out, I found out that I can do it via online transfer at the comfort of my own room…)

Finally, I secured a place for myself and what I didn’t know, I also secured a whole bunch of new friends, and an open door to another world I have never knew existed.

Charge Up! Conference (CUC) is a media training conference. It is organized by Live Wire Media Ministry Network. Choon Ean, embracing the passion from God to serve Christians in media ministry as a body of Christ, founded this network and takes the lead in organizing CUC. Attracting 170 candidates from all over Malaysia this time, CUC has become an annual gathering for media talents from different churches, as well as a ‘charge up’ time for them. Having the mission “to link up God’s media talents and resources, to raise up a spirit of kingdom excellence in media, and to lift up the message of Gospel of Christ”, CUC has shown excellence in every aspect, and ‘Excellence for God’s Glory’ was what amazes me and pumped my spirit! (Ok, change back to ‘sharing tone’ instead of ‘reporting tone’)

Among the four tracks that CUC offers (Photography, VFX, Video and Live Sound), I chose Video track. Having serving fulltime in media for close to 3 years, I find myself very detached from the what is happening out there in the media world. This is a great opportunity for me to pick up new things! I certainly enjoyed every lectures, especially the ones on production, editing and production design.

Apart from skill, I am also very encouraged by the messages delivered by Pastor Sivinkit, senior pastor from Bangsar Lutheran Church, as well as the leader for “The Micah Mandate”. He used every possible ways to make the voice of Christians known in our society taking the advantage of the cyber world. He blogs, he tweets, he do successful campaigns, he joins NGOs… and so on! Despite of his busyness, I can see that he remains a simple heart for God – to glorify Him in all that he does. Being the theme talk “Power Up!” session speaker, he brought me to the fundamental calling: live in Christ, live for Christ. Nothing else matters if we never abide in Christ and let Him abide in us. It is not the technology that matters, it’s the story and the message, and they should point to Christ, not self! These are important messages to us involving in the media ministry. I thank God for Pastor Sivin.

The project I did with my team was ‘Hope’, and our hero for our shortfilm is a basketball. A lot of ideas and imagination sprang forth when I write the script, but due to time constrain and technical limitations, we have to drop some ideas and shoot a simpler version. I thank God that we have a mature team. We talked through the different ideas and compliment one another throughout the process. It turned out quite well! Praise the Lord!

The prayer I pray throughout the training was that God will give me the gift of creativity. I long to serve God creatively because His stories deserved to be presented in creative ways. I believe God will give it to me as I continue to work things out relying on His Holy Spirit. I have drawn out several projects for this year: training videos, testimonies and 1 short film. Please pray for me to be able to partnership with others, as well as involving new media talents in the production. Thanks ;)

Speaking in MMU Binding camp

It was a fun time more than a ministry time (well I did not say ministry time cannot be fun here ok..) Love hanging out with MMU students. They reminds me of a lot of sweet memories when I was a student in TAR College. I can’t tell what makes the MMU students so much like TAR College students, but there’s a strange chemistry that happened and made me feel, somehow, very familiar :)

I was privileged to spend 3 days 2 nights with 15 of them. Enjoyed the time we makan and main, as well as time for transparent sharing. I talked about Love of God, Love and Forgiveness and Life Purpose. Preparing the pulpit message itself was very beneficial to me personally. God helped me to revisit a lot of areas in my life that i missed out previously, such as my personal mission statement, my understanding of His love, and so on… I believe God ministered first to me, and that His message will be carried out in a more effective and ‘real’ way.

Here are the photos we had. Would love to share them to you :)

Executive Retreat 2009

God is AWESOME! That’s all I can say!

The last weekends (25-27 September) had been a life-changing moments. More than one time, my spirit burst out joy and wonders as I hear people sharing the supernatural and life-changing stories God has done.

A former death-row inmate turned into a new-born pastor

A former drunkard, violent husband and dad, turned into a man who could shed tears of repentance on stage when he recap how bad he treated his children and wife

A former proud and dangerous military man who led a military havoc in Philippine year 2003 called “Oakwood Mutiny” turned into a humble servant of God

A hateful man whom brother is killed, turned into someone who is willing to forgive, and share the love of Jesus with that very man who killed his own brother.

A man who used to own almost everything a man wants in the world, yet lost it all over night, humbled, and decided to live right for God, surrendered to Jesus, and God lifted him up again.

Jesus changes lives! You may think that money, position, military power or any other human efforts can change lives, like the men I mentioned above, yet they failed. Now they understood: We can only live a new life in Jesus, and no where else. That’s why they are bold to stand up for Jesus, because they witnessed what Jesus did to them, and changed them

I thank God for every moments spent in Executive Retreat. I enjoyed working with influencing people who desire to know God, and please God and God alone in their lives. My heart is thankful as I see God is working in mighty and powerful ways!

Most of all, I am excited of journeying with a God whom no one could stop Him from doing great and mighty works wherever He wants, and that I am part of this wonderful plan.

Geri/Geraldo Gembala. Don't undemine this physically small guy. He was former Philippine military man, fought 8 years of endless Philippine sounthern border war, and was the leader who led a group of 321 armed soldiers who called themselves "Bagong Katipuneros", held their country "hostage" for 24 hours on July 27, 2003, in an event commonly called "Oakwood Mutiny". He met Jesus in prison, and his life is transformed. My aquaintance with him was wonderful, and you can 'smell' the humility of Christ in him! He is now serving with PCCC Leader's Movement, as a staff ministering mainly to the military of Philippine, and worldwide.

These were only some of the people whom life had been transformed by Jesus Christ. There are more people who joined the Executive Retreat have met Jesus Christ in special ways too! Their lives are beautiful, and I was ministered by God deeply as I see their lives.

I too, want to live such a life that is worthy of God’s grace- – His transforming, freely-given and eternal grace.

Grateful I-Connect!

Praise God, it has been an impactful week for all of us who join I-Connect Phase 1 here at Majodi Centre, Plentong JB. God has ministered to all of us with His Words and He also called some of the students to offer themselves for Him to use them fully! Praise the Lord!

It had been an exciting week as well as we see God moves as we humble ourselves before Him and walk closely with Him. I particularly enjoy the morning prayer and group devotion together. God’s presence just ministered to me everytime I see how His faithfulness is seen in other people’s lives!

MEDIA WORKSHOP

We have 21 students joining the media workshop this year. I’m very encouraged by their positive attitude: They are humble in learning, give each others help and accept one another. I can see Christ through everyone of them as they produce the assignments. Unlike previous asignment, they need to produce documentary this time instead of shortfilm. This is to give them the first taste of experience in video production, and not to wear them down so much as filmmaking has the tendency of doing it over night…

My Days as MCCC Staff (pt.1)

Today is 1 May 2009.

On the same day 2 years ago, my identity had a turning point.
After 3 long months of raising supports and getting ministry partners
I was officially recruited at a full time staff in Malaysia Campus Crusade for Christ.

I thought: It would be great to look back on how God had led me since the very beginning of this journey 2 years ago. I believe I will be able to count God’s blessing He has poured through all of you (yea, YOU! ;> )

I hope by going through the pictures and some simple descriptions, you’d count the blessings of God together with me!

(Sorry if I exposed your youthful or innocent appearance long time ago..)

I was assigned to join UKM Campus ministrysoon after I-Connect 07 finished. This was the first time I join core planning of UKM (as well as my very 1st core planning in my life!! I wasn’t a core student during my college times).

I still remember the timew we talked about building spiritual multipliers in UKM; I still remember the fun timew we had (hide-and-seek; ping pong…); I still remember how we humbled ourselves to accomplish things beyond our ability, by trusting God!

CM 2007 widen my vision. This 6-days International conference held in Busan, Korea helped me to capture God’s heart for the World. Worshipping with over 21K people from 141 different countries was such a great experience as I had a pre-taste of what Heaven is going o look like!

I felt unworthy and honored at the same times as I see myself as a fulltime campus staff. I do think that God calls the unworthy in order to show how mighty He is through the limitations of a man like me. In this conference, I also get to know more about the UKM students and campus staffs nationwide.

Soon after we came back from CM 2007, UKM enrolled her new batch of university students. We spent a lot of time in prayer and trying to reach out to UKM freshmen.

I still remember walking through Pusat Pengajian Am, Kolej UO, Kolej IY with Wen Yee, at the same time praying for Christians in this UKM; I still remember the time Wai Seng and I found James in his room, when he was praying for a fellowship he could be part of in thie university. I still remember Syah Zuan’s illustrations on the air-bed and how it relates to the importance of sharing Christ in our lives. I still remember the sharing time under the “Eyes on Malaysia” at Titiwangsa Lake Garden on that Saturday night.

I still remember how nervous I was when I was preparing for the 15-minutes long sermon on the topic “Vision 2020″. I thanked God for His Words and Bible Warriors who were willing to live up their life for the vision God had for them. The sermon was presented smoothly, and it impacted my own heart.

That was also the first time I stayed under one roof with other campus staffs. I thank God for another time to fellowship and drawing me closer to the MCCC family.

I joined Methodist Prayer Convention in Sunway as Malaysia celebrated her 50th year of independence. It was a 3-days long Prayer Convention gathering Methodists all across the country. There I experienced the sweetness of worshipping with almost every races in Malaysia (except for Malay). Praying using different languages, singing praises using different tongues… just so amazing!

I still remember how God deepen my desire to win Malaysia for Christ. I still remember my dedication to God to take up again my role as a prayer warrior for my beloved country and people in it.

What A Week!-NCLT Sharing

Attending a 6 days training is quite unimaginable for me before I go (what is it like staying in Golden Sand PD for 6 days, have to attend training all day, and NO DIRECT ACCESS to Internet??)

When I found out that this training is to train staffs to have CD capacity (Not “compact disc”, but Campus Director, the leader of a staff and student ministry team), my heart sank and wonder why should I be here, I’m not even a good fulltime staff, and now “upgrading” me to a campus ministry leader??

Worse still when I was given a stack of 3cm thick material for the week.
Going through the training material  not just made me feel released but became fearful, burdened and stressed. . I thought this would be another training that worn me down and make me feel discouraged.

Then I realized I haven’t prepared my heart for this training, I’ve been grumbling about it, I’ve been focusing on myself rather than God, I’ve never asked for prayer supports. Then I put aside the materials, I pulled in a deep breathe, calm myslef down before the Lord, and sent SMS to some of you, my prayer warriors… and confess that I need God to change my attitude, and  that’s when God began His work…

In the devotional sharing of Ps. Ling Yok Wong, our National Director, on the 1st 2 days, he shared from the verse “For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep, and was laid among his fathers (Act 13:36).

The keywords of this verse are: Served, Will of God, and His Own Generation. Literal meaning of serve is “under-rower” (people who row the ancient big ship according to the direction the captain of the ship set); Will of God is “deliberate design” (where God carefully planned and plotted with all of His mind); and Generation is “Alloted life-span” (a carefully and shrewdly spend life, because you have only 1 life time to spend and it has no return)!

God led me re-evaluate me values in this serving life. I asked myself: Do I serve God in a way like David: Totally submission to God’s Will, Knowing and following His plan, even though I may not know the ultimate outcome, and to invest my life carefully on things that has eternal value? I thank God for His truths that realign my heart and personal desire. Then God changed me in following issues:

1. God changed my core of conviction:

I have to admit that it’s a true struggle to share Christ with people around me. I can share Christ, but I don’t expect much changes I can see in other’s life. Sharing Christ is so normal until I can do it without the Holy Spirit… I feel like doing a job instead of fulfilling God’s calling.
In this training, God called me to revisit the core of His calling- – His Eternal Plan. Yes, not only His plan for my life, but His plan for the eternal destiny to mankind. I see myself as a tiny yet significant point being put in this generation to stand in the gap and tell people about His plan for them, just like Abraham, Isaac, Moses, David, Paul and other great bible warriors, they served their generation wholeheartedly by making God known. Seeing this, I humbled myself before the Lord and thanked Him for counting me in in His eternal plan – it’s not a ‘Gospel sharing job’, it’s an eternal calling!

2. God refreshed my ownership of His vision towards the campus.

This training challenged me to ask “Why I’m doing what I do?” Do I carry out my daily duties as a campus staff: evangelism, discipleship and doing mission trip; or someone who minister God’s truth to the students, seeing their life transformed and impact many? I’ve forgot that the students I’ve been ministering to will make great positive changes in the world tomorrow if they grasp hold of God and His Plan in their life!
I realized that “building spiritual movement” is not a mere slogan which could stir up emotions to evangelise and disciple more; nor it is the identity or calling of Campus Crusade for Christ International – - It is the very heart beat of God!
God desires to win the heart of this elite generation, disciple them so that they would preserve the world from crookedness of their generation, and when this world is looking for answers, they could provide the Truths! That everyone in the world will know that God is the answer they’ve been looking for. I’m not making disciple among the university students, not only that! I’m making disciples of future leaders, and in all nations!

3. God revive my desire to build spiritual movement in the campus

Frankly speaking, when it comes to topics about “building spiritual movement”, I became having all sorts of negative words in my mind: Impossible. No way. Day-dreaming. Limitations. Being jailed. 50 more years la, maybe can gua…
But God shifted my focus from the limitation I see to His unlimited power and Glory! This is the plan of God, not mine. This is the promise of God, not ours! He call us to do it, He is faithful and He will do it! The early disciples do not think of persecution or impossibilities, all they know is: Jesus is God’s only provision for the problems of mankind, He died and He is risen – -and He commanded us to tell it to the world as He gave us the Holy Spirit! Wasn’t it a simple yet biblical conviction? God wants me to embrace that simple faith and continue to walk with Him in the campus!

I thank God for letting me to go through this process of realignment. I treasured the time I spent with my fellow workers, who is going through the same journey of growth as I do. Please continue to pray for us, as we are called to do something we cannot do (life changing) on our own. I also want to thank God for you playing your part in supporting us in this movement! God remembers everything you’ve committed for His Kingdom! Let’s expect God’s glory as we work out His Will in our lives!

“Do I Love Myself?”–Self Image Talk

Finally, it was smoothly delivered.

It was an emotional 2 weeks process preparing for the self-image talk on last Fri (13 Feb).
Reading through all the related materials, plotting the points, looking for nice graphics and setting up an interesting powerpoint was quite a tiring process.
Moreover, I need to do a lot of self-examination throughout the process: What is my motive behind making the talk sounds great? What are the temptations? Why do I react this way when that happen? It went on and on…

Frankly speaking, I was so nervous that I couldn’t even leave my mind off thinking about the talk and points I want to deliver for that 2 weeks.
Because I know this matters to a lot of people
Especially when I’m talking about identifying lies with truths!

Thanks God. His grace has been really sufficient!
Supports from teammates, students and prayer warriors are indeed work!
I walked up to the front of the students will full confidence, knowing that God wants to bless the participants with the truths!
Thank God for using all of us as an instrument for His wonderful grace!

Apart from students with the ministry, we had about 5-6 non-believing friends in our midst that night and few new believers, made up a total of 20 over attendance that night! I’m glad that a lot of students say that they were benefited from the talk.

My heart is grateful as I see how God fulfills all the basic needs of a human in building a healthy self-image: Belonging, Being Valued and Importance.
From the Bible, I know that: I’m loved unconditionally by God; I’m uniquely created and I’m special and highly valued; I’m given a mission and I’m well equipped to accomplish them!

I love myself, because God loves me just the way I am!
